DIONISIA NIEVES ACOSTA LAZAGA’s BIOGRAPHY

JULY 31,1926 – NOVEMBER 19, 2014

Dionisia Nieves Acosta Lazaga was born in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on July 31, 1926. Her parents were Mariano Acosta and Hilaria Lardizabal. Nieves, as she was called during her younger days, grew up and went to elementary and high school in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. She was a member of the Softball Team of Tagudin National High School. After graduation in High School, Napoleon Lazaga Sr., did not waste time and asked Nieves to marry him. A double wedding ceremony was held on December 9, 1945; Nieves Acosta and Napoleon Lazaga Sr., and Federico Lazaga Sr. (Napoleon’s older brother) and Ernestina Jimeno. Nieves was a member of the Blue Ladies Pitogo Chapter and Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Parish in Makati, and The Tagudinians in California. She was a housewife and worked part-time as sales consultant for Manila Memorial Park. Nieves and Napoleon were sponsored by their son, Nelson, to come to the U.S. and immigrated in 1980. In 1984, four of their eight children; Nestor, Edna, Norbert and Edith immigrated to U.S. to join them. Then in the years 1996 and 2000, their married children; Ester, Evangeline and Napoleon Jr. with their behalves and children also immigrated to U.S. As a housewife, she enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by many for her generous heart, thoughtfulness, and good sense of humor.

Dionisia Nieves Acosta Lazaga is survived by eight children; Evangeline (Jean), Napoleon Jr. (Boy), Ester, Nestor (Sonny), Nelson (Nel), Edna (Baby), Norbert (Beng) and Edith (Dith) who are all living in California.
